The spa village of Velké Losiny boasts two national cultural monuments. The oldest paper mill in Central Europe has been producing exclusive handmade paper for an incredible four hundred years. When visiting the famous late renaissance Velkolosin castle, which was not only a film but also a real seat of the inquisitor Boblig, do not forget to notice, for example, the oldest two-seater stretcher in the world. The Chateau Goldenstein complex in Branná also belongs to the category of late renaissance Transalpine arcade castles. The dilapidated monument has been reborn as a chateau boutique hotel. However, a guided tour alone is also possible. The castle in Bruntál represents a very original Nordic Renaissance in the Jeseníky Mountains. Its floor plan is in the shape of a circular section and the arcaded courtyard is built into a triangle. However, the castle interiors are also worth a visit.
A unique example of the folk architecture of Silesia is the mower in Karlovice near Vrbno pod Pradědem, which also rightly enjoys the highest degree of monument protection. And why a mower? In the beginning, the building functioned as a hammer mill, but since 1725 it has been produced scythes, sickles, wires and other agricultural implements.
You will also find truly exceptional architectural treasures in the Rychlebské Mountains. On a rocky promontory above the Silesian town of Javorník rises a national cultural monument, the Jánský vrch chateau. Among other things, you will take a pleasant walk from it to Račí údolí. There, in the middle of the greenery, you will see the Dance Hall building dancing with colors and graceful curves.
When wandering through the Jesenice and Rychlebské mountains, definitely look into the churches and chapels. You may be surprised at the treasures they hide. The chapel in Lipky near Rýmařov is considered a pearl of the North Moravian Baroque, the chapel on Kapličkový vrch in Malá Morávka hides a unique painted coffered ceiling, you can admire the art of master carpenters at the timbered churches in Klepáčov, Žárová or Maršíkov. The churches of St. Josef in Žulová, whose bell tower rises from the tower of a medieval castle. The parish church in the almost forgotten settlement of Travná near the Polish border is also worth a visit. The author of the building is the architect of Vienna City Hall and one of the most important artists of the 19th century Friedrich von Schmidt!
And in this list we must not forget the art of contemporary creators, who leave an indelible mark in the Jesenice mountains. The most significant buildings grew up at the foot of the Králický Sněžník mountain range. An intense feeling of staying in the clouds is offered by the unique Trail in the Clouds in Lower Moravia, which was created in the renowned architectural studio of Zdeněk Fránek. The silver Twiggy on the Štvanice hill between Hynčice and Stříbrnice was also designed by the renowned studio of Martin Rajniš, who in his projects deals with the idea of long-term sustainability of architecture, its relationship to nature and human society.
