Hustopeče nad Bečvou Chateau

You are here:
Hustopeče nad Bečvou

Renaissance chateau with the most beautiful arcaded courtyard in Moravia.

The castle was built in 1596 for Charles of Žerotín and his son Viktorin. Its layout is a four-winged building with an arcaded courtyard around a rectangular courtyard. The lower northern wing was added later and the whole building was restored after 1740. The arcades, partly the work of Italian stonemasons, have relief decoration and the building's façade retains sgraffito in places.

The castle changed hands in 2001. The previous administrator, the Rožnov Wallachian Museum in Nature, transferred it to the Municipality of Hustopeče nad Bečvou. Through many years of efforts for the transfer, the municipality gained the right to decide on the future of the castle and to breathe new life into the dilapidated building. The chateau had been in poor technical condition and without use for a long time. At present, restoration and renovation work is underway. Visitors have the opportunity to visit the courtyard, the lapidarium, the butcher's museum and the music and film museum.
