The centre of the region is the town of Šumperk. Its historic centre holds many surprises - you can get in the mood for a stroll through the town by visiting one of the many stylish cafés.
This region also bears traces of the infamous witch trials, during which hundreds of innocent victims were tortured and sentenced to death in the 17th century. The centre of all this was the castle in Velké Losiny. The exhibition of the Witch Trials in Šumperk also brings the dark period closer.
You can see for yourself how skilled the local inhabitants were in technical matters during a visit to two buildings in particular. One of them is the oldest working handmade paper mill in Europe - in Velké Losiny, the other is the Dlouhé stráně Pumped Storage Power Plant.
An important location in the region is the Červonohorské sedlo, and also Skřítek - it is an ideal starting point for exploring this rugged, yet beautiful region. You can also follow the many nature trails, such as the Ridge Trail - a world of mountain meadows, or the Hrebenovka trail from Skřítek to Červonohorské sedlo. Kouty nad Desnou - this is also another of the most important sports complexes, whether you are into winter or summer sports. The surroundings of Rabštejn also attract adrenaline lovers - the rocks at Rabštejn are among the largest and most famous climbing areas in Moravia.
Cyclists are recommended, among other things, the circuit around Velke Losiny.
What to taste?This rugged region also gave birth to one famous product - the pure beer from the mountains, Holba, was born here.
