The Green Tree Distillery is probably the oldest continuously operating distillery in Europe. Its history dates back to 1518. It is also one of the largest distilleries in the Czech Republic.
The history of the production of spirits, which the company's activities continue, dates back to the 16th century, when in 1518 the right to produce malt, brew beer and burn "liquor" was granted by Lord William of Pernštejn to the house U Zeleného stromu located on the square of Prostějov. It was then that a unique Czech whisky called Stará rye myslivecká was born.
For those interested, the distillery organises guided tours, during which visitors see the bottling line, walk through a part of the cellars where hundreds of thousands of litres of branded spirits are aged in oak barrels and stainless steel tanks, and of course can taste selected products, which can then be purchased in the company shop.
