In the Water Fortress you will find expositions dedicated to the local nature and especially - the history of Jeseniky. Be sure not to miss the exposition about the infamous witch trials.

The town museum in Jeseník (formerly Frývaldov) was founded in the autumn of 1900 at a time of great interest of the society in local history and Slavic roots. People from the surrounding area contributed to the museum's collection and its first collection object was an iron cross with the year 1646, related to the legend of the Jesenik executioner. The exhibitions were inaugurated in December 1905. After a few years, the expansion of the collections necessitated the relocation of the museum, and thanks to an agreement with the representatives of the Bishopric of Wrocław, to which Jeseniky belonged at the time, it was possible to acquire the premises of the Water Fortress for these purposes.

At the beginning of the 1930s, the museum could be reopened in a new building, but then World War II significantly interfered with its activities. In 1945, the rest of the collection, which had been put together after several removals, returned to the fortress and the museum gradually resumed its activities. Since 2007 it has been undergoing long-term reconstruction.

At present, it offers permanent exhibitions of the history and archaeology of the Jeseníky region, the fauna and flora of the Jeseníky region, and in its cellar, hardier visitors can become newly acquainted with the history of the witch trials in Jeseníky. In the museum, two exhibition halls regularly alternate short-term exhibitions. The museum also includes the birthplace of Vincenc Priessnitz, the founder of the Jeseník spa.
