The old town under Sněžník and its surroundings hide an ingenious system of impregnable log cabins (bunkers) of the border fortifications from the period just before World War II.

Thanks to this nature trail, you can get to know the elaborate system of reinforced concrete defensive buildings with extensive underground spaces - the infantry log cabin system.

Anyone who is not a big fan of these technical-military monuments will be delighted by the magnificent views of the surrounding peaceful, tourist-free landscape full of mountain meadows on this moderately challenging walk around the Old Town.

The journey into the turbulent modern history of the northwest corner of the Jeseníky Mountains begins at the Old Town railway station, where an information board is located. From there, follow the red and white trail that leads together with the yellow trail towards Květná. After you pass the multifunctional playground and go through the forest spur to the meadow, you have to turn right where you will find the object StM-S 30 Potok, which is a bit "hidden" in the bushes at an altitude of 537m. A beaten path leads to the object. Then you need to return towards the playground, where you cross a bridge over the river and follow the sign that will lead you to the Květná bus stop (a row of houses below you).

Now head uphill following the red and white marker and you will come to two buildings StM-S 31a Borek and StM-S 31b Ozdravovna (the only one with a preserved main locker), located at an altitude of about 590m, then go downhill through the forest, you will come to the road leading from Stary Město to Malý and Velký Vrbno, cross it and on your left will be the Morava convalescent home (a recreational facility of the Police of the Czech Republic). Above the convalescent home at an altitude of 642m is the StM-S 32 Krajní building, follow the red and white marker uphill and you will reach the StM-S 33 Lesík building, standing at an altitude of 677m. This object is usually open to the public in the season, the tour is guided.

From Lesik you will follow the signpost to the object StM-S 34 Slope with an altitude of 737m. To get back to the Old Town, follow the red and white marker under the Lesik object and turn left and follow the dirt road to Nová Street, walk down the hill until you reach the cross, from there take Jesenická Street to the square and then back to the railway station.

Interesting fact

Holidays in Jeseníky can be spent in many different ways, for example with friends in a military bunker. For several years, this is how the members of the Beton Bunker Club Kronfelzov, who take care of the fortifications of the state border built before the beginning of World War II, have been spending their free days.

The experience of admiration for the art of our ancestors is somewhat tempered by the historical fact that one of the most elaborate border fortifications in Europe has never been completed or used, and so many take away perhaps more questions than answers from the nature trail around the Old Town.
