The Comenius Museum in Přerov boasts the title of the oldest museum of its kind in the world. The Renaissance castle houses mineral collections, reconstructions of school classrooms from the 17th century to the 1950s, and an exhibition focused on the ethnography of the Haná region.

The exhibitions deal with Jan Amos Comenius, the "teacher of nations", who studied and then taught at the school of the Moravian Brethren, and Jan Blahoslav, an important linguist and translator, and a native of Přerov. Another precious collection is that of archaeological findings from the Přerov area. The Museum as an institution also engages in research work in the field of the history of education, Comeniology and regional history.

The Museum also operates an ornithological station and maintains Helfštýn Castle and the local chateau.
