Přerov Chateau

Přerov

Přerov Castle is a Renaissance four-winged building from the first quarter of the 17th century, built on the site of the original castle. The tower, which dominates the castle and the town, was completed and roofed in 1997 after 225 years.

The first documented mention of Přerov Castle dates back to 1141. In 1475, the estate was acquired by William of Pernštejn, who had the castle Renaissance-style rebuilt. At the beginning of the 17th century, the Renaissance reconstruction was continued by Charles the Elder of Žerotín. The last private owners of the castle were the Magnis family in 1795-1918.

In 1918 the town of Přerov bought the chateau, repaired it and adapted it for museum purposes. Today, the chateau is home to the Comenius Museum, founded in 1888, but even today you can still see a sample of the chateau interiors - a ceremonial hall with an anteroom and a room with Empire furniture belonging to the last owners of the chateau. The chateau is a dominant feature of the City Conservation Area. The original moat dates back to the 16th century.
