Kolštejn Castle

Branná

The reconstructed Renaissance chateau with the ruins of a Gothic castle from 1325 has come to life in the form of the historic hotel Chateau Goldenstein.

From the history...

The Renaissance castle Kolštejn was built in the 16th century by rebuilding the Gothic castle Goldek. During the 15th century, the castle became a massive fortress, of which the perimeter wall, part of the western palace and the largely rebuilt great tower have been preserved. During the Thirty Years' War, Kolštejn played an important role in the defence of the imperial troops against the Swedish army, but then its importance gradually declined. In the 19th century the building housed the princely brewery and later also the municipal school. During the first half of the 20th century the castle became the property of Branná, later it was owned by the state and by the end of the last century it was in danger of collapse due to its deplorable condition.

Visit

The reconstructed castle is open to tourists for a guided tour, which lasts about 1 hour. The tours run from Tuesday to Sunday at 10am and 2pm. Tours of Kolštejn Castle can be arranged for groups outside these times by calling 420 732 237 296.

At the moment, you can stay in the 4* hotel Chateau Goldenstein and also use the services of the nearby Kolštejn Wellness Centre. You can taste not only the local beer in the local restaurant.
