The total collection of the museum currently amounts to almost one million items. It includes collections of archaeology, art history, numismatics, ethnography, cartography, music, medicine and pharmacy, militaria, industry, trade and crafts, mineralogy, geology, zoology, paleontology, botany and many smaller collections. The museum's library is also rich with more than 70,000 volumes, and the unique collection of manuscripts and old prints numbers more than 2,000 volumes.

The museum's permanent exhibitions present the region's history under "Olomouc - Fifteen Centuries of the Town", show you the folk traditions of the region under "From the Cradle to the Grave" and acquaint you with personalities under "Gallery of Personalities of the Olomouc Region". The following exhibitions are also interesting: "Countryside of the Olomouc Region" and "The University of Olomouc".

The lapidarium - an exhibition entitled "The Story of Stone", offers visitors ten thematic stops that tell "the story" of stone from its oldest era to modern times. (May-September 10:00-18:00)

  • In addition to the permanent exhibitions, visitors can see approximately twenty temporary exhibitions a year.
  • Accompanying programmes are prepared for children and schoolchildren and a regular series of lectures on regional history is offered to secondary school students. Seniors can attend classes at the University of the Third Age at Palacký University in Olomouc, which specialises in the cultural history of the Olomouc region in a European context.
