On the site of today's chapel there used to be a town prison, where in 1620 the Catholic priest Jan Sarkander, to whom the chapel is dedicated, was subjected to the law of torture. Sarkander died here as a result of torture.
The Chapel of St John Sarkander is a three-storey Neo-Baroque structure covered by a cupola with a lantern. In the central elliptic part is a circular floor opening where a rack from the time of Sarkander is situated. The adjoining staircase is decorated by a statue of St Jan Nepomucký and a statue St Jan Sarkander sits in the corner niche.
