Hradisko Monastery in Olomouc

You are here:
Olomouc

The monastery was founded in the 11th century as the seat of the Benedictines. In the 12th century, however, the members of this order had to leave involuntarily and were replaced by the Premonstratensians. The castle has experienced many catastrophic events and has been destroyed several times. Today it has a Baroque appearance and has been the site of a military hospital for over 200 years. One of its towers houses an exhibition on the history of the monastery.

After the dissolution of the seminary in 1790, the monastery buildings were given to the army. The latter first established a fortress warehouse, in 1800 a prison camp for French soldiers and later a military hospital. It still serves its purpose today.
